Announcing summer classes by The Black Fox Writing Academy! Join us for Writing Experimental Fiction: A Lecture and Generative Workshop with Makena Metz.
This class will be held live via Zoom and will NOT be recorded.
Class Description:
From writing in poetic meter to epistolary documents to playing with non-linear structure or having an unreliable narrator, experimental fiction is a great way to express yourself as a writer. In this class, students will generate experimental material and learn tools and processes to push themselves as risk-takers and play with form and structure. Recommended reading: Craft in the Real World by Matthew Salesses.

About Your Instructor:

Makena Metz is a Writer & Songwriter for the Page, Screen, and Stage. She has an MFA in Creative Writing and MA in English from Chapman University. Makena is a proud member of The Dramatist Guild, ASCAP, Women in Animation, Maestra Music, and the Society of Composers & Lyricists.
This year Makena’s debut musical comedy EP “Songs For My Therapist” began dropping tracks (check them out on all streaming platforms)! She is also publishing her debut poetry chapbook with Bottlecap Press later this year. Makena’s television and feature work has made the Coverfly Red List and placed in several competitions. Her prose and poetry have been published with Wordgathering, PearTree Press, The Clockhouse Review, For Page and Screen, Havik, The Bitchin’ Kitsch, Wishbone Words, Strange Horizons, and more. Her plays and musicals have published and produced with Musical Theater Today Magazine, Queen’s Theatre’s “Disability Forward” Anthology, Next Stage Press’s “WE:US Monologues for the Gender Minority” Anthology, and produced with The Lincoln Center’s ADA30 Celebration, Roundabout Theatre Company, The Kennedy Center Playwright’s Intensive, and many others.
Makena currently works as an Editor for Storyteller Publishing and has taught and mentored writing for places like Pocket MFA, the Prep LA, the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, and Women in Animation. Find her work at @makenametz on social media and check out makenametz.com.
